In the WHO 2005 report "Health and the Millennium Development Goals," the problem of logistics for health is highlighted:
“Much of the burden of disease can be prevented or cured with known and affordable technologies. The problem is in getting staff, medicines, vaccines, and information–on time, reliably, and in sufficient, sustained and affordable quantities–to those who need them.”
Strengthening Health Logistics in sub-Saharan Africa
Started in 2011, LOGIVAC is a three-year project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that provides technical support to improve logistics for health, the vaccine supply chain, and vaccine management in West and Central Africa through certified training and recognition of professional health logisticians and the establishment of a reference and resource center.
